Let's watch this video carefully & learn to give some comments on the following areas: Accuracy, Timing, Phrasing, Expression, Fluency & etc.

Imagine that you're the examiner to grade this candidate who is sitting for the Yamaha Gr.6 exam, will you pass or fail this candidate & why?

Please feel free to share your opinion & idea, we all learn from mistakes.

  1. This is a slower tempo. Some parts of the rhythm is wrong, the 4th bar is one of it.left hand is a little slow sometimes, should be played at the second beat.Changing of sound is awkward.First part should be soft, and the other part too. There is no crescendo or dim. seen anywhere in the playing. In the last part, student should hit the keyboard a little harder.

  2. At the end of part A , when you have to hold the note , u could have soften the sound. And when playing right hand..some chords are loud while others are soft.In the song , you could have did a loud to soft then soft to loud sound rhythm because the song is a slow and smooth song. The chords were not hit accurately according to the timing. In the second part you forgot to play the chord. Instead of filping pages , try to photocopy the pages and place beside one another , so that u dont get distracted . Last but not least , at the end of the song , hold the notes a bit longer and lower the sound , ending the song.

  3. I think more expression is needed in this piece. It seems little dull throughout the whole song. The left hand is a little bit messy. The timing is also a bit awkward. Student should photocopy the pages instead of turning them, especially for the exam to reduce the amount of disturbances in the performance.

  4. Be more expressive with the notes...'feel' for the notes < > The left hand is a little bit messy with chords not play accurately. A few Missing Notes & chord noted...Do Take Care of the timing and the Articulation. Photocopy unless you are able to memorized the whole song. Some part of the song needs to play lively...'a tempo'.

  5. Thank you very much to all of you who participated in this Analtsis exercise, hope that you had learnt something from each other. Basically, this was a "Dirty" performance, probably will earn you a Gr.D or C in the exam.
Another issue regarding the LATENCY problem, it could be the FLV video, or due to my CHEAPO Nokia phone, you'll notice that the video & music does not synchonize well especially those fast tempo music.
