Times fly and did not realized that this vblog Electone Corner had passed the second birthday last month. I was thinking of starting this project of writing a teaching blog for a couple of months initially and did not expect myself to continue this far.

New Examination Syllabus wef 2011

The Yamaha Electone Examination "A Course" is going through a major overhaul and be prepared for shock come year 2011. You may click this link "Examination Syllabus" to read in details. For now, let me highlight the important changes:

• No more aural and listening evaluation from grade 10 to 6. But candidates taking grade 13, 12 or 11 are still subject to the evaluation.
• No more 'impromptu' improvisation. Depending on the grade that you're sitting, you need to prepare 3 to 6 impro pieces in advance and the examiner will listen to one of them.
• No need to practise for up to 7 exam pieces. 4 pieces for all grade from next year.
• Compulsory pieces. Something new here, whether you like it or not and you are required to include 1 compulsory piece.

I have sort out the Compulsory Pieces and Improvisation Pieces for various grade below:

• Grade 10A
• Grade 9A
• Grade 8A
• Grade 7A
• Grade 6A

You may download the PDF files to your computer and print the compulsory / improvisation pieces for your own use.

Hiroshi Kubota on Electone Stagea LIVE!

The keyboardist Hiroshi Kubota performing with his fusion band "TRIX". To bad that you can't see his pedal work in this video. But, now comes another chance to watch him perform live in Singapore, his second performance here. Don't miss the chance to see how he toys with the "Pedal", hopefully at the age of 50 (Oh dear! I hope that he doesn't mind that I mention his age) and he is able to kick the pedal like he used to be, hehehe...

Anna "Early Spring"

A grade 5 piece from the "Collection of Electone Original Works, Vol 1"
This is the first time she attempts this kind of style and she had struggled to coordinating her both hands, fingering, tempo and etc. But, after two months of hard work and she is able to play it very well and enjoy this beautiful song finally.
Keep up the good work, Anna! Btw, it will be good if you can share with others on how you managed to over come the various difficulties and your effort in posting in the "Comment Box" will be very much appreciated.

Usually, it would took you two months to learn a song and you were lagging behind my schedule, but recently, you're able to complete two songs in a month. Max Takano @ Yamaha 50th Anniversary Concert (Malaysia)

My idol Max Takano performed @ Malaysia Yamaha Electone 50th anniversary concert.

He had been absent from Singapore's scene for at least ten years and I heard that he will be coming to perform at Singapore somewhere at the end of this year, looking forward to watch him perform again.

Ai Tong School "Digital Stomp Final Project Guidelines"_P4

Your work should have the following Musical Structure:

Intro: 2 bars

Section A: 8 bars

Section B: 8 bars

Ending: 2 bars

You're not allow to recycle the ‘drum loops’ and ‘melody loops’ from the previous assignment.

Your project should have a total of 20 bars of music. You will be graded on lesson 7 - 8 and I would like to wish all you guys Good Luck! Cheer ;-)

Ai Tong School "Rubrics for Digital Stomp"_P4

Grade A : There are 4 Sections in the project. All 3 Components of music are present for each section. Fade In / Out & Effects (Pitch Shift &, Reverse) are used in the project.

Grade B : There must be at least 2 Sections in the project. The 3 Musical Components are present at least in one section.

Grade C : There are 2 Sections in the project. It is incomplete (2 Components or less).

Grade D : Any standard below grade ‘C’. (For example, drums only)

• "I Lay My Love On You" was sang by "Westlife", released in 2001.

• "Tara's Theme" is the soundtrack of the 1939 film "Gone With The Wind".

Eric Kee "I Just Called to Say I Love You"

Hi Eric, this is your first video and well done.

I love the way you added the drum fill-in and changed the registration, keep up the good work. But, some slips @ the middle section can be heard and the tempo was a little slow too. Please look at my "Practice Tips" for inspiration.

Oh ya! Don't just play the game only, here's the history regarding this song. "Canon in D Major" was composed by "Johann Pachelbel" , a German composer from the Baroque period.

Revisions of Yamaha Electone Eaxm Gr 13 - 3.

Have you heard of the latest news regarding the graded Yamaha Electone Exam? There are quite a few important changes, the reduction of number of songs for the higher grade exam to 4 pieces only, no more aural test for the 'A' course lower grade exam, achievement test level 13 to 10 will be rename to Student Grade Exam 13 to 10 & etc.

• The revisions for Gr 5 to 3 exam will take effect from May 2010.
• The revisions for Gr 13 to 6 exam will take effect from January 2011.
