Asia-Pacific Electone Festival 2011

Asia – Pacific Electone Festival (APEF) an annual competition in Electone Music. The various Yamaha Music School from the Asia-Pacific region take turns to host this event. The origin of the Electone Festival dates back to 1964 in Japan to showcase the skills and talents of Electone virtuosos.

This year, Singapore will be hosting the APEF. It will feature contestants from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore. These outstanding contestants will be competing on the Yamaha Electone Stagea. The first prize winner of the APEF Open Age section will move on to the Yamaha Electone Concours Final Audition.

New Examination Syllabus wef 2011

The Yamaha Electone Examination "A Course" is going through a major overhaul and be prepared for shock come year 2011. You may click this link "Examination Syllabus" to read in details. For now, let me highlight the important changes:

No more aural and listening evaluation from grade 10 to 6. But candidates taking grade 13, 12 or 11 are still subject to the evaluation.
No more 'impromptu' improvisation. Depending on the grade that you're sitting, you need to prepare 3 to 6 impro pieces in advance and the examiner will listen to one of them.
No need to practise for up to 7 exam pieces. 4 pieces for all grade from next year.
Compulsory pieces. Something new here, whether you like it or not and you are required to include 1 compulsory piece.

I have sort out the Compulsory Pieces and Improvisation Pieces for various grade below:

You may download the PDF files to your computer and print the compulsory / improvisation pieces for your own use.

Stand By Me was composed by Ben E King in 1961. However, there were others version that sang by different singers: John Lennon, Maurice White and Mickey Gilley. There are two movies used this song as the theme song: Stand By Me in 1986 and Urban Cowboy in 1980.

Not a steady performance. The rhythm @ "Intro" was not well played, a slip in the middle of the song can be heard clearly and overall the tempo was a little slow. On the whole, a nice arrangement for this dance music.

Have you heard of the latest news regarding the graded Yamaha Electone Exam? There are quite a few important changes, the reduction of number of songs for the higher grade exam to 4 pieces only, no more aural test for the 'A' course lower grade exam, achievement test level 13 to 10 will be rename to Student Grade Exam 13 to 10 & etc.

The revisions for Gr 5 to 3 exam will take effect from May 2010.
The revisions for Gr 13 to 6 exam will take effect from January 2011.

Soundtrack Production Workshop @ Bendemeer Sec Sch

This is a post exam activity organized by Bendemeer Sec Sch specially for the following primary school: ACS, Balestier Hill, Bendemeer, Bukit Panjang, Farrer Park and St Joseph Jr.

There are divided into two groups and each group of students are required to attend a eight hours course stretched over two days. From 12th to 13th November for the first group and 16th to 17th November for the second group. There will be a friendly competition at the end of the course to select the best soundtrack.

Here comes the best soundtrack for the 1st group, done by Kai Lin and Kirthanaa from Bendemeer Pri Sch.
